For over 20 years now EAST has sourced much of its original and
colourful jewellery from the Philippines. Jewellery production is
one of the country’s most productive industries, attracting
buyers and exporters from all over the globe. Filipino costume
jewellery is highly acclaimed for its quality, design and
innovative use of natural materials such as wood and sea
shells.
Go Green Philippines is a sustainable environmental programme
designed to revitalize the Philippine ecosystem, focusing on forest
management.
EAST is the first company to contribute to this project and the
2,500 trees it donated to the project are currently being planted
over 1 hectare which will be aptly named "EAST Plantation". Any
wood components that are included in EAST fashion jewellery from
the Philippines will in the future be sourced from this sustainable
forest.
Jonathan Keating represented EAST at the various ceremonies,
including judging a fashion drawing competition, giving a short
speech at the Governor's house (a replica of the White House) and
being interviewed by press and local paparazzi.
Jonathan also received a certificate from the project's
governing body.
There was a huge amount of goodwill directed at EAST as we were
the first overseas company to pledge the 2 hectares. It was a very
public event with numerous photographers, press and television.
See below a press release from CebuFAME (fashion accessories
foundation which is a partner in the Go Green project) where
Jonathan Keating is mentioned.
